PHNOM PENH: The Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Cambodia, Mikami Masahiro, praised the achievements of the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology for their work, as well as for the work to be carried out in the mission to contribute to development and growth of Cambodia's economy even better.

These remarks were made by the Japanese Ambassador during a courtesy call and discussion with the Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology, Lim Kean Hor, on the Cooperation on Water Resources Aid Project on Thursday morning at the office of the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology.

Ambassador Masahiro informed Minister Lim Kean Hor of the commitment of the Government of Japan to continue contributing to the development of the Cambodian economy as well as the water resources sector.

In turn, Minister Lim Kean Hor thanked the Government and people of Japan for their continued support to Cambodia's economic development, especially in number of key areas, such as the construction of physical infrastructure, support for health, rehabilitation and promotion of education, promotion of social development, strengthening of governance in Cambodia and the strengthening, expansion and development of water resources.

The Minister briefed the Ambassador on the achievements and work that the Ministry has achieved and is currently implementing, as well as the future work coming ahead in the framework of water resources and meteorology, to contribute to addressing challenges related to climate change and water security, to meet the needs of sustainable use and development.

It should be noted that since 2005, the Royal Government of Japan, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), has assisted Cambodia in the management and development of water resources through grants and concessional financing.

Some projects have already been completed and some are still in progress, such as the Kandal Stung Irrigation Project in Kandal Province, the Climate Change Resilience Capacity Building Project in the Kingdom of Cambodia (heavy machinery supply), Thlea Maom Irrigation System in Pursat Province, Makak Irrigation Project in Siem Reap Province, Irrigation Technical Service Project in Cambodia, River Basin Water Utilization Project, West Tonle Sap Irrigation and Drainage Rehabilitation Project, the project to rehabilitate the irrigation and drainage system in southwest Phnom Penh, and some new projects that have been implemented in 2022 and will be implemented in the coming years, which are already approved by the Government of Japan.
